Family Stays: Learn Spanish Outside of Class

Living with a family in Antigua can be tricky but also rewarding if you stay with the right family. If the right family is selected, it can be advantageous. It provides first hand knowledge of daily Guatemalan life; and it gives our language students another venue to learn Spanish outside of class. Meals are provided three times a day Monday-Friday and twice on Saturday (breakfast and lunch) which saves you from the expense of eating every meal out. Sitting around the dinner table, students can practice and learn Spanish with their native Guatemalan host family. Since many host families offer accommodations to several students, it also provides you with the opportunity to make new friends and to know other cultures. You just need to make sure it's not all students and no family, and that the house is clean and comfortable - otherwise the family is just operating as a hostel.

Each family is hand selected by Academia Colonial to ensure that you stay in a comfortable, friendly environment. If you have specific requests such as meal, pet, or smoking preferences, we will gladly accommodate you. Family Stay Rates:

$95/week - 3 meals a day except for Sunday
$110/week for luxury accommodations with private bathroom - 3 meals a day except for Sunday
