W

e provide our students with optional private airport pickup and drop off services from Guatemala's Aurora International Airport. The school car is a comfortable air conditioned sedan that can seat up to four students. The school monitors your flight information to insure that we are on time to pick you up. Once you clear customs and immigration you will find our driver outside waiting for you with a large sign displaying your name and the name of the school. It is then a short 45 minute drive to Antigua. You will be given your welcome packet, and depending on the hour, you will either be brought to the school for you orientation, or in the case of an evening flight you will be brought and introduced to your host family, or dropped off at your hotel or hostel.

The cost is $35 for one person, $40 for two, and $45 for three or four passengers.

Alternative options to get to Antigua:

Taxi

You may take a taxi to Antigua. Most drivers ask for $35, which you may, depending on your negotiating skills, be able to bargain that down to $25 during the day. If you arrive in the evening, the trip could be $40 or more. If you take a taxi, make sure you find one in good condition and negotiate only with the drivers themselves rather than the people holding taxi signs at the airport exit.

Collective Shuttle

There are collective, shared ride vans to Antigua that run during the day. The cost is usually $10-$15 per person. The drawback to this option is that you may find yourself waiting for a few more flights to land because the drivers like to leave only when the shuttles are full, so expect to be waiting at least an hour in the shuttle before you depart for Antigua. Other than that, they are a decent option for transport to Antigua, provided that there is one available. Shared ride shuttles normally do not run for evening flights.

Public Transportation (aka chicken bus)

The most dangerous and inadvisable way to get to Antigua is by public transportation. This is a very cheap but risky option, do not do it at night, and do not do it if you have a lot of luggage or valuables. The ride can take up to two hours.

If you would like to make arrangements for the private car airport pickup service, simply provide your flight details and transportation request information in the enrollment form. You will then receive an email confirmation from the school. If you choose to make your own arrangements for transportation please advise the school when you plan on arriving, especially if you are staying with a family, so that we can tell them when to expect you.
